Terms of Use
Last updated: October 11, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and [Legal name], [Business address], Canada ("we", "us"), for using the BalmyMoney app and website. By creating an account or using the app you accept them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.
1. What BalmyMoney does
BalmyMoney helps a family see and plan its money: it shows the purchases and balances of the bank accounts and credit cards you connect, and works out budgets, bills to set aside for, credit card payments and savings plans from them. It connects to your bank through Plaid with read-only access. BalmyMoney is not a bank, does not hold your money and cannot move money, pay bills or make transfers.
2. Your account
- You must be of the age of majority where you live in Canada.
- Give us accurate information and keep your sign-in, your phone and your app PIN secure. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it.
3. Families
An account belongs to a family. Admins invite people and choose their role: admins manage the family, members see and add to its spending, and viewers can only look. Everyone in a family can see the family's purchases and balances, except what an admin hides. Invite only people who agreed to join, and connect only bank accounts you are allowed to share with them.
4. Bank connections
Your bank connections are provided by Plaid under Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. What BalmyMoney shows depends on what your bank and Plaid send: some banks update only when you sign in to them again, and data can arrive late, be incomplete or contain the bank's mistakes. Always check your bank for exact balances and due dates.
5. Estimates, not advice
"Safe to spend", budgets, reserves, statement forecasts, savings plans and Balmy AI's answers are estimates made from your data. They are not financial, tax or legal advice, and you make your own decisions. We are not responsible for interest, fees or overdrafts that follow from relying on an estimate, a late bank update or a forecast.
6. Balmy AI
Balmy AI is optional. It can be wrong or incomplete, so check anything important. It answers a limited number of questions each month, as shown in the app.
7. Subscription
- Some features need a subscription, bought through the App Store. The price and any free trial are shown before you buy. One subscription covers your family as described in the app.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your Apple ID settings at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Payment and refunds are handled by Apple under its terms.
- If we change the price, Apple tells you before it applies to you.
8. Using BalmyMoney fairly
Do not use BalmyMoney to break the law, to access data that is not yours, to forward other people's emails without their permission, to interfere with the service or its security, or to copy or reverse-engineer the app except as the law allows.
9. Your data and our app
Your data stays yours. You let us process it only to provide BalmyMoney to you and your family, as our Privacy Policy describes. The app, its design and the BalmyMoney name are ours; these terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app.
10. Changes and availability
We keep improving BalmyMoney and may change or stop features. We aim to keep it available but cannot promise it will always work without interruption. We will tell you in the app before a change to these terms that affects you takes effect.
11. Ending
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account); cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings too. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
12. Limits of our responsibility
To the extent the law allows, BalmyMoney is provided "as is", and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by your bank, Plaid or other services we do not control. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your province.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Manitoba and of Canada that apply there, unless the consumer protection laws of your province say otherwise.
14. App Store
If you got BalmyMoney from the App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app, its support or any claim about it, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of its price, if any, and Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country under a U.S. government embargo and are not on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
